Simplicity

"My life is an old, run down hermitage,

poor, simple, and quiet. " - Ryokan.

The Buddha, mightiest warrior,

relinquished his lavish life to be a traveler,

he gave his jewelry, crown and kingdom,

for simply a hut, a bowl and undying freedom.

The affairs of this world will keep on going,

Take refuge in the singing birds,

Give up the thirst for things, people, and food,

Look within, and taste the nectar of mind.

The best of lesson are from:

Long unwavering trees that give shade in need,

Still drifting water that flows effortlessly,

Clear bright sky with unbound vastness,

and the sun that brightens up the world.

Money, fame, prestige - they are all meaningless,

The Buddha had it all - be he chose small,

Minimalism, simplicity and modesty -

that, my friend, brings abundant tranquility.
