Regret

Again, and again, and again,
the virtuous man trains his mind,
and keeps it like pure, clean, clear water,
when defilements arise due to craving,
he makes a strong fort of mindfulness,
and fights evil until his head bursts of effort.
Let me die, let me be cut to pieces,
but never will I follow my defiled emotions.
Each moment, he asks himself,
how can I do good and escape the trap of samsara.
Fools of little understanding,
run after mirages of beautiful women,
but the wise sage sits on the mountain
and develops equanimity to realize the truth.
How long will he do evil in vain,
does his heart not stop knowing evil?
Why must his mind be a slave of his body?
Thus he should always focus and never give in.
The wise only teach one thing:
That is to remain serene in face of threat and adversity.
